About How Rare Is My Name
Hello, bright soul! I’m Una the Unicorn, your sparkly guide through the meadow of names. I gallop from village to village, and from phone to laptop, helping curious travellers discover how rare is my name with a tap and a twirl. If your name is a shining comet or a beloved classic, I am here to celebrate it with you.
My Quest
Last updated:
Every name is a story. Some are whispered in hidden groves. Others echo over mountains and marketplaces. My quest is to turn that wonder into a simple and colourful Rarity Score, a friendly way to feel where your name sits in the grand chorus of your chosen land. Think of it as a little compass that points toward uniqueness, all wrapped in confetti and starlight.
How We Journey Together
- Speak your name: Type your first and last name, then choose your realm, or country.
- Tap the magic: Press “Check My Name Rarity ✨” and I’ll answer how rare is my name in a heartbeat.
- Celebrate: If your score soars, Fun Mode may unlock a shower of confetti. Screenshots welcome!
- Share the sparkle: Copy a link so friends can see the same result and join the fun.
Don’t worry if your name is unusual, brand-new, or delightfully complex. The meadow has room for every blossom.
What Your Rarity Score Means
Higher scores shimmer toward the extraordinary. Lower scores sing the cozy song of the familiar. Neither is better. A rare name feels like a shooting star, while a common name feels like a warm campfire. Both light the night in their own beautiful way.
My Promises to You
- Kindness: This is a joyful place. Your story matters more than any number.
- Simplicity: No accounts to create, no complicated steps, just easy, instant results.
- Privacy-friendly: You ask how rare is my name, you see your answer, nice and simple.
- Delight: Colour, clarity, and celebration because magic makes information memorable.
Share the Magic
Want to invite your village? There’s a tiny widget that lets other sites open a portal straight to your results here. It’s like carrying a pocketful of stardust for friends and neighbours.
It looks just like this:
If you would like to add this fun widget to your own magical site, insert this code anywhere you like for Canada:
<div id="hrim-embed" data-hrim-embed data-endpoint="https://howrareisyourname.com/" data-country="CA"></div>
<script defer src= "https://howrareisyourname.com/embed/widget.js"> </script>
Or use this version if you're in the United States. Either way, the curious unicorn can still select their homeland:

Una the Unicorn's Technical Team
Hi there! If you've read this far, I’m Don St Germain, and I personally created and coded this how rare is my name website, with lots of creative help from Una, with a simple mission in mind: fun, a light-hearted laugh, and something cheerful to share with friends and family.
For over two decades, I've been designing websites and tools with one goal in mind: create websites that are both entertaining and informative. I strive to deliver solutions that are practical and reliable, and I value simplicity, transparency, and accessibility, ensuring that everyone, regardless of technical expertise, can benefit from my offerings.
Where the Data Comes From
Behind the sparkles, our name results are based on public name-frequency data from trusted sources in Canada and the United States. We use that information to estimate how common or rare a first name may be in your selected homeland, then present it in a fun and easy-to-understand way.
United States First Names
For United States first names, we use Social Security Administration baby-name data where available. This helps us see how often a name appeared in a given year and how that popularity changed over time.
Canada First Names
For Canada, we use available Canadian name-frequency data sources for the years we currently support. Right now, some tools use a fixed 2021 Canada dataset so results stay consistent with the information available.
How We Use It
We compare your chosen name to the broader pool of names in that country and year, then calculate a share percentage and, in some tools, a rarity score or ranking. It is designed to be informative, playful, and easy to explore rather than a formal population count of every person with that name.
A Few Gentle Limits
Very rare names may not appear in every public dataset. Spelling changes, nicknames, punctuation, accents, and country differences can all affect results. That is part of what makes names so interesting, and why trying a nearby spelling or a different homeland can sometimes reveal a whole new bit of magic.
A Parting Sprinkle
Whether your name is a rare comet or a beloved anthem of the crowd, you are the only you. Thanks for letting me be your guide. When you’re ready, I’ll be here, hoof poised and waiting to reveal how rare is my name for anyone who wonders.
